Ontario is making it easier for about 4,500 college and university students who receive support through the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) to volunteer for the 2015 Pan Am and Parapan Am Games.
New and returning students who volunteer during the Games will not be required to make a pre-study financial contribution, ensuring they can receive more support through OSAP to account for the fact that they volunteered instead of taking paid jobs during their summer break.
New graduates who volunteer during the Games will be able to defer paying their OSAP loan until one full year after completing full-time studies, providing an additional six months before interest is charged on the loan and they are required to start repaying.
Helping students contribute to the success of the Pan Am and Parapan Am Games is part of the Ontario government's economic plan to create 26,000 jobs by investing in people, building modern infrastructure and supporting a dynamic and innovative business climate.
