Changes to the Statutory Warranty
Following public feedback received earlier this year, Tarion is increasing the new home warranty coverage provided by builders in Ontario. The changes involve boosting the warranty compensation limit to $400,000 for new freehold homes and creating a new Temporary Relocation Warranty.
The warranty coverage enhancements will come into effect on July 1, 2023, and will benefit homeowners who enter into a purchase agreement on, or after, that date.
For more information on these new measures, please view our Q&A here.

Routine Vaccinations
The re-emergence of certain vaccine preventable diseases is being seen in parts of the world and is cause for concern. OPH is monitoring the potential emergence of measles, and we are making continued efforts to increase uptake and coverage of routine childhood vaccinations. Thousands of children and youth in Ottawa are missing routine vaccinations that would protect them from measles and other vaccine preventable diseases. Vaccinations required for attending childcare and school should be kept up to date. Parents and guardians can find out if their child is due for vaccination, and which vaccinations have already been reported to OPH, by visiting our website at ParentingInOttawa/RoutineVaccination. You are encouraged to share our Facebook and Instagram posts.
If you are travelling outside of Canada, ensure you are up to date on your vaccinations at least six weeks before your trip. Visit our Measles webpage for more information.

March is Nutrition Month
Ottawa Public Health has a team of Public Health Dietitians, who play a unique role in supporting our communities to thrive. Dietitians use the science of nutrition to help people and communities meet their healthy eating goals. We work with partners to address issues like food insecurity and to create healthier places, where people live, work and play. Registered Dietitians are regulated health professionals who apply their expertise in food and nutrition to support individuals and communities to improve their health. The work of Registered Dietitians in public health is to make the healthy choice the easier choice for everyone. Find a dietitian near you!

Resources for finding licensed retirement homes in your community
When it comes time to consider retirement home options for yourself or a loved one, the Retirement Homes Regulatory Authority (RHRA) has a database of all licensed retirement homes in the province, including in your local area. The database contains helpful information including care services offered and reports of any inspections conducted by RHRA. You can access the database by visiting retirementhomedatabase.
RHRA is an independent, not-for-profit regulator mandated by the government to ensure the safety and well-being of residents living in one of the over 750 licensed retirement homes across the province. This includes conducting inspections, addressing complaints or reports of harm, and helping residents and their loved ones make informed choices about their living and care options. RHRA is the only organization in the province tasked with this important mandate.
For more information on RHRA, you can visit their website at RHRA.ca or look at this information pamphlet.
